Biological science in Astrobiology focuses on understanding what life is, how it evolved and the processes that allow it to survive in extreme environments on the Earth. By understanding the limits of life on Earth we not only learn how life has managed to persist for over 3.5 billion years on the Earth, but we improve our ability to assess other planets as possible locations for life and how to find it.
The study of life in Earth’s extreme environments. Investigating the biology and biochemistry of life in extremes. The earliest evidence of life on Earth in the rock record. The search for habitable conditions in locations such as Mars and Saturn’s moon, Enceladus.
